Maggie Walker Field Hockey Edged by Westview Team Eliminated in State Quarterfinals in Sudden Death OT November 9, 2011 The Green Dragons were edged by Westview HS of Fairfax County in sudden death OT last Tuesday during the VHSL State Quarterfinals at Sportsquest. The game was even closer than suggested by the final score of 2-1. Westview had more possession time and was very well organized. Maggie Walker played with greater speed and creativity and although fewer, their scoring chances were more dangerous. The Dragons struck first, with senior co-captain Katy May swatting a bouncing ball into the net from 10 yards out. Senior co-captain forward Lane Scher went out of the game late in the first half with a cut to the forehead. Her speed and creativity were missed, tipping the balance to Westfield for the remainder of the game. The Dragon defense and senior goalkeeper Julia Whitehead were simply outstanding throughout the game, but Westfield found the goal late in the second half, forcing the the OT.
Colonial District Coach of the Year Paige Hawkins has much be proud of. Her Green Dragons concluded an excellent 20-2 season, winning the Colonial District regular season and tournament, repeating as Central Region champions, and playing outstanding field hockey in the State Tournament. The team always played with grace, poise, grit and determination.

Late Surge of Credits Propels Maggie Walker into the Winners Circle
December 16, 2010 When people outside the Maggie Walker community think of our school, athletics is generally not the first thing that comes to mind. However, the school's athletics program has just scored a big win on the national level as the Maggie Walker Athletic Boosters was notified today that they have won a $5,000 sports grant through the Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports program. This program supports volunteer youth sports coaches and parents who help our children succeed both on and off the field. The contest was open to any school at any level across the nation. This year's race has been highly contested, and the supporters of our school deserve a large share of the credit for their tenacity in helping us galvanize support from start to finish. This was a tremendous effort. Unlike many of the other schools in the winners circle, Maggie Walker is a small school with a limited student body. Our success in this contest is a tribute to our loyal and engaged school supporters.
Thanks to everyone for their support!!!!
