Maggie Walker Athletic Boosters Would Like to Welcome Everyone Back to School
Please Visit us During "back to school night" on August 31st
August 27, 2010 On
behalf of the Maggie L Walker Governor’s School Athletic Boosters, welcome to
the 2010-2011 school year. With athletes
from 12 localities in the Richmond region, our sports programs thrive. We hope that you will join us on Tuesday,
August 31st for a “back to school athletes night” where you can meet and talk with the coaches,
students, parents, and the Athletic Boosters leadership. Fall sports include volleyball, golf, field
hockey and cross country.
Athletic
Boosters are a vital part of allowing our students to shine both academically
and in athletics. Did you know that
between 60 and 70 percent of Maggie Walker’s students participate in an
organized sport? The Boosters through
our membership, fundraisers, and unwavering commitment to our children help
make the athletic programs fully funded.
This
year is an important year for Maggie Walker’s athletic programs. We are finalizing the design of a modest
athletic pavilion at the outdoor fields and hope to move into construction by
late spring. Through the efforts of
committed volunteers, a $50,000 challenge grant has been secured from the Mary
Margaret Parsons Foundation. Plans call
for green energy and environmental sustainability components in the pavilion so
that it can also serve as a science center for our students, visitors, and
community.
You
will be receiving information about athletic boosters and membership
applications during the first few weeks of school. We meet the second Thursday of every month at
6:15 pm at Maggie Walker. We welcome you
to our meetings and our work.
We
have a variety of volunteer opportunities from team representatives to web
articles to grant writing. We have a
spot for everyone.
I
look forward to meeting each of you and am always willing to find an answer to
any question.
